It starts with Speak Easy...
Enzo DiFiore is not a nice guy.
He’s a liar. A cheat. A criminal.
His family kidnapped my father and wants ten grand in ransom from me—next week.
But I can’t keep my hands off him.
Joey Lupo is a criminal too—and just because he’s helping me get the money doesn’t mean I should forgive him for all the dirty tricks he played on me in the past.
But I can’t keep my mind off him.
Me? I’m just a bootlegger with a weakness for whiskey, danger, and a man in a three-piece suit.
But deciding whom to trust isn’t easy in a world where everyone wants something—be it booze, money, power, or sex—and no one cares what it takes to get it.
It continues with Speak Low...
I thought I could leave danger behind.
I couldn’t.
I thought I did the right thing, betraying one man for another.
I didn’t.
I thought I knew what I wanted.
I was wrong.
Now I’m desperate to fix my mistakes before it’s too late and I lose the one thing, the one person, that truly matters to me.

What a treat! This book was so much fun to read.
Set in the 1920s, Tiny O'Mara helps her father run a bootleg operation selling whisky. Everything is going fine until Tiny's father is kidnapped and held for ransom. Other gangs and families want a piece of O'Mara's pie. With the help of Joey Lupo, Tiny's "friend" since childhood, she scrambles to come up with the money in time. But Enzo DiFiore, the man that's blackmailing her, is easy on the eyes and confusing to her lady bits. She should hate him, right?
Tiny is such a great character. She's feisty and hilarious and loyal and passionate. Her inner thoughts are a riot. What a wild ride!
Speak Low: 4 stars
Speak Low picks up right where Speak Easy left off. Joey told Tiny he's moving to Chicago. Now she has conflicted feelings. The problem is the two men she wants are in opposite gangs. How is Tiny supposed to be loyal to them both? She makes a lot of mistakes but it was hard to stay mad at her for long. Tiny reminds me of Scarlet O'Hara - childlike, sometimes bratty, flirty, manipulative, stubborn, endearing, protective, etc.
It started to feel like she based which man she wanted by which man she was in front of at the time. But she quickly came to her senses and made a grand gesture. Yes, she chose right! The epilogue was squee-worthy. We were updated on everybody and everything was as it should be. I loved it. Speak Low wasn't as fast paced and nail biting as Speak Easy but still a great read. Well done!

The Speak Easy Duet Includes both Speak Easy and Speak Low edition by Melanie Harlow Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I read forked and it mentioned some of the characters from speak easy . So glad I read it I loved the suspense and the love you see before the characters see it . I loved Tiny and Joey but I enjoyed seeing Tiny grow as a woman and figure out who she belongs with
Tiny and Joey, 1923 Detroit, bootlegging and gangsters = a great story! I could not put these 2 books down! Their world and their romance involves unexpected twists and turns. After reading Forked in the Frenched series, I had to know more about this couple and I wasn't disappointed!
Excellent story, full of prohibition era goodness! I have never read a historical romance set in the 1920's, this was a refreshing idea and a very enjoyable story. Gangsters, bootlegging, speakeasy's, and hot love scenes, what more could you ask for? I fell in love with Tiny, she was a fierce little firecracker! I can't rave enough about this series, I loved every minute of it!
The depth and intensity of the characters kept me flipping each page. I finished in record time and wish the story continued. What an exciting ride and adventure.
I spent the majority of my time hoping Tiny would choose the right guy. These books are set in the 1920's in the height of prohibition one the reasons I chose them. Reading the same ole same ole can get tiresome.
I'm certainly not disappointed I chose this series. It had a little bit of everything, crime, suspense, romance and sex. What else could a reader ask for?
Anything Melanie writes is a must read for me!
Beautifully written and so very hard to put down.
I loved the historic setting of The Speak Easy Duet.
Definitely cannot go wrong
Review posted separately for each book in the series.
Speak Easy 3/5
Speak Low 5/5
While Speak Easy is the lowest score I have given any of Melanie Harlow's works, it is not a bad effort. Just had a few things about it that I did not love. That said, for a fun afternoon reading a book you will enjoy...pick it up. And, by the end of the 1st one, you will want to know what happens and will be glad you are reading it now, when the second one has been written and published. And, if you enjoyed the 1st one enough to read the 2nd, you will enjoy it. Once Tiny and Joey's relationship gets going, well, the temperature wherever you are is going to go up a few degrees.
Sometimes a fun book, or series, is exactly that. Something that was fun to read. Both met this criteria, with the 2nd being a little more fun.
