Only part way through, but I have thanked my brother in law for suggesting this. Seneca was amazing. What was true then is true now. This is an important look into the human psyche. Great book. All that aside, I was in a place where this book actually helped to save my life.Product details

Consolations from a Stoic edition by Seneca Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
Recently out family lost one of out closest friends. I found myself searching around for some grounding in this unexpected tragedy. The Stoics came to mind from my university studies in The Classics. The book really helped me get centered and overcome those sometimes destructive emotions surrounding sudden loss. Thanks for making this compilation available so reasonably priced.
Great translation of the Consolations (De Consolatione ad Marciam, De Consolatione ad Polybium, De Consolatione ad Helviam) by the Roman thinker/philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca, one of the greatest adherents and proponents of the Hellenistic philosophy of Stoicism. Here are some typical quotes from the text which illustrate the tenets of this philosophy "every man is able by himself to make himself happy"; "the wise man is neither elated by prosperity nor depressed by adversity"; "the wants of the body are few", namely protection from the cold and satisfying the needs of hunger and thirst; "Not to be born...is the happiest lot of all..."; "what is there new in a man's dying, when his whole life is merely a journey towards death?" The insights and truths of the ancient world, and its great philosophers and writers, have never been bettered, and Seneca's thoughts are succinctly brought to life in this excellently-executed, precise and accessible translation.
Seneca , of all the Stoics he seemed to be more relevant for modern times. He touches my spirit !
Not knowing much about the Stoic Philosophers, I looked up the definition of Stoicism.
Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded in Athens by Zeno of Citium in the early 3rd century BC. The Stoics taught that destructive emotions resulted from errors in judgment, and that a sage, or person of "moral and intellectual perfection", would not suffer such emotions. (From Wikipedia)
This collection of the works of famous stoics is enlightening and interesting. I can’t say I completely grasp their philosophy after one reading. This is a work that should be revisited if you want a fuller understanding. It’s nice to have these ideas in one collection for reference.
